Career Advice on How to Become A Gaming Dealer

General Career Information

A gaming dealer is not a guy who works at a video game store selling used video games for several times what they are worth.  No, the video game dealer is a totally different kind of dealer altogether.  The gaming dealer is a person who works the tables at our nation’s fine gambling establishments, helping rid wayward souls of their hard earned money.  In fact, gaming dealers make up a large percentage of all employees that one is likely to find at a casino or gambling institution.

In terms of what kind of games the gambling dealer runs, the list can be quite varied.  The gaming dealer operates such tables as the card games like blackjack, the roulette wheel (which is a game truly designed for crazy people), and other staples of the casino and gaming industry.  Is it fun?  Well, for those who win at the casinos its all a blast!

Career Facts:

If you are working in a casino, there is a 50-50 chance that you are in fact a gaming dealer.  About half of all casino workers find that they are employed working the various “games of chance” that have been set up by the casino.  This means that out of the roughly 160,000 casino employees working in the United States, approximately 80,000 spend their days and night helping lighten the wallets of those who willingly stumble into their establishments.

Career Opportunities and Job Outlook- Very Good:

If you are looking to become a gaming dealer, then you are in luck.  The job growth outlook for gaming dealers is expected to be rather good between now and 2016.  The projected rate of growth should be about twenty-three percent.  This is due, in part, to the fact that new gambling establishments are popping up constantly as state governments look to raise additional revenue.

A Day in The Life:

Fun, fun, fun!  Or at least that is the case for a small percentage of the people that the gaming dealer sees in a given day.  The facts are that most of their “customers” leave the table and the gambling institution with either less money or far less money than they began with earlier that day or night.  Gaming dealers spend their days working the various card games and other games set up by the casinos.  This can mean that they run anything from blackjack and poker to roulette.  They have to be on the lookout for cheaters and pay out winnings that event actually occurs.

Average Salary:

While you may be swimming in money as a gaming dealer, much like the bank teller, don’t expect to take too much of it home with you.  The average gaming dealer earns about $14,000 per year.  Of course, gaming dealer earnings may vary from dealer to dealer depending upon tips received.

Career Training and Qualifications:

Most gaming dealers have attended “dealer school” at a vocational or technical school where they learn the tricks of the trade.
