Remember the good old days when you used to play baggage porter or bellhop and you would carry around heavy bags for hours? What you never played that game as a kid? Yes, there is a reason for that and that reason is because it’s a horrible game. While it may be true that one makes one’s own fun, the fact still remains that there is little inherent fun to be had working as a baggage porter or bellhop. They call it “luggage for a reason.” You have to lug luggage from place to place. Its heavy, cumbersome and dragging it around just isn’t much fun. Definitely factor this in to your career planning or job search.
Odds are you can never guess what a baggage porter or a bellhop does. They carry people’s bags. Shockingly enough, baggage porters and bellhops carry the bags of people, often travelers, to and from hotels or other destinations. There is no way around it, this is about as straightforward of a career as one could find. It works as follows: person shows up with bag, the baggage porter or bellhop takes the bag, the instinct to run away with the bag and search it for valuables is suppressed, bag is taken for customer to their room or other destination, baggage porter or bellhop stands and/or stares awkwardly while waiting for tip. If a tip is given proceed with a thank you. If a tip is not given or the tip is insultingly small, tell your friend in housekeeping to do horrible things in customer’s room. Repeat this process perhaps dozens of times per day.

Baggage porters and bellhops spend their days carrying other people’s bags around. This is not a career with substantial long-term stability. After all, there soon there will be a robot with your name on it if you are working as a baggage porter or bellhop. Yes, the robots are most certainly coming for your job.
